Public meeting reiterates opposition to govt move for land acquisition

CHANDEL, Feb 21: A public meeting was held today at Khukarthil in Chandel reiterating its stand to oppose the government’s move for acquiring 600 acres of land at Pallel. The meeting which was convened and presided by convener of Chandel Naga Kuki Joint Committee (CDNKJC), Ws Kanral Anal, took serious note of the government maintaining silence instead of taking steps to fulfil  the people’s demand.

It  further reaffirmed the decision taken in a previous meeting to impose 48 hours total Chandel Bandh from midnight of February 27 saying that the government has failed to respond to the demands of the people which oppose the acquisition of 600 acres of land near Pallel for development of Integrated cum Multi Facilities Logistic Hub under State Department of Commerce and Industry, transfer of Revenue Land Records from Thoubal to Chandel and shifting  of the surrendered  KYKL (MDF) cadres from Chandel district.

Briefing the media, Ws Kanral Anal said, “CDNKJC is left with no option but to go ahead with the decision as the government has failed to give positive response. Nothing will be exempted from the purview of the proposed bandh”. However, Kanral said that examination and its related matter would be relaxed from the purview of the proposed total bandh.

He also informed that a sub-committee on steering and Finance to be led by the convener Ws Kanral and Kuki People’s Forum (KPF) President, Jammang Baite as Co-convener was also constituted. A sub- committee on 48 hours total Chandel Bandh was also constituted with Chairman of All Tribal Chiefs’ & People’s Grievances Forum Chandel district, Sng Lumdil as the convener. The meeting was attended by Chiefs, Tribe Presidents, CNPO, KPF, NWUC, KWHR, NSUC and intellectuals.
