`E-Way Bill Module an e-version of the road bill`

IMPHAL, March 11: The Department of Taxes Government of Manipur organized an awareness program on E-way Bill Module today at Hotel Nirmala.

Speaking at the function assistant commissioner of taxes, RK Khurkishor said that the E-Way Bill Module is a permit (commonly known as road permit) done through internet for more accountability, accuracy, transparency, to make decrease of tax evasion and to generate more of revenue etc.

He elaborated that under the E-way Bill Module the dealers will be issued a code number for the shipment of goods which will be similar to the prescribed ST-Form 27, ST-Form 28, ST-Form 29 which is also known as the road permit. The code number is a document to be carried by the consignor or dealer consisting of details and must provide whenever asked, he further explained.

He claimed that the earlier version of the prescribed road permit will be valid for only 120 days and replaced by the E-way Bill Module with effective from March 16, 2014.

To acquire the code number the consignor or dealers must log on to http:/ manipurvat.gov.in but in order to acquire the code number, one must be a registered body which is mandatory, he further added.

Highlighting that the new module adopted by the Department of Taxes Government of Manipur is a central schemes and it is under the Mission Mode Project- Computerization Taxation (MMP-CT), the assistant commissioner disclosed that many states across the country including North Eastern states has adopted it.

The department have released nine module which are E-registration, E-CST (Central Sale Tax), E- return, E-payment, E-way Bill, E-refund, E-audit, E-filling envois, E-TDS (Tax Deduction Source), he said adding that with the introduction of E-payment the department has able to collect Rs 86 crore as revenue for the first time.
