IMPHAL March 15: An oil tanker today crushed a man driving an Access moped to death while leaving his pillion rider seriously injured.
The accident occurred today around 10.30am in front of the 69 Battalion CRPF and the dead body has been deposited at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Morgue.
Family members identified the death as Wangkhem Rocky, 27, son of W Binoy of Ningombam Awang Lekai and a constable at the Sekmai Police.
The injured is identified as Karam Babichand, 27 son of Kheba Ching of Ningombam Awang Leikai.
The two were returning from Chumbreithong Central College where Rocky had given his Class XII exam.
Locals said the the two were coming towards Imphal side from Mantripukhri on the moped bearing regd number MN 01R 9391 when the oil tanker bearing regd number MN 01 8331 from behind and ran over the rider.
Karam Babichand who was seriously injured has been admitted to the Raj Polyclinic.
The dead body has been not been claimed by the family members from JNIMS Morgue till the filing of this report. Police have also taken up a case regarding the incident and seized the vehicles involved in the accident.
