Congress charges CPI of physical assault

IMPHAL, April 19: A press meet was held on Saturday at Manipur Press Club on the alleged assault of Abdul Gaffar alias Md Bodimayum Anu, 35, son of Abdul Salam of Mayang Imphal.

Th Rajmohon Meitei, 23, a resident of Mayang Imphal said that Md Anu was brutally assaulted by Gopimayum Md Safiulla, 52, son of Haji Haota and his follower at Anu’s residences for not giving vote to Communist Party of India on April 17 on which the 16th Lok Sabha election was held. He further said that Md Anu had cast his vote to Congress. Md Safiulla and his party had come on April 18 night at around 9:30 at Md Anu residence and brutally assaulted Anu following which Hamida, wife of Anu run out from her home to seek help of the locality. Rajmohon further said that Takudin brother of Anu had also been assaulted.

Th Rajmohon also said that the incident was condemned by the local people of the area and the government should intervene on this matter so that befitting punishment could be awarded to those culprits and adding that Md Anu is now at Shija Hospital in critical condition.  

The followers of Md Safiulla are Md Zakir, 44, son of late Tulab Ali; Md Abdul Majit, 28, son of late Md Tulab Ali; Md Mustap, 22, son of late Mv Tomba and Md Tarak Sahah, 19, son of accused.

The wife of the victim Hamida further said that the accused should be given befitting punishment for which necessary complaint has been given to Mayang Imphal Police.
