IMPHAL, April 15: The last day of campaigning for the Manipur Inner Parliamentary Constituency election saw Rajya Sabha MP from the state Abdul Salam campaigned for his party Congress candidate Dr Th Meinya at Keirao which is a minority dominated area.

Congress is the only secular party, he said.

Rishang Keishing, the oldest MP in Parliament is from the Congress, he said and added now the party has sent another individual from a minority community to Parliament after Rishang Keishing.

India’s oldest party, the Indian National Congress recently observed its 126th anniversary all over the country, while independent India is only 62 years old, which means that it had spent half of its existence in the freedom movement of India, he continued.

Continuing his speech, he said CPI is an import from the erstwhile USSR, which has now been split into many smaller countries. The principles are now outdated in even its place of origin, Russia than how can it be successful in a democratic country like India, he questioned.

BJP was formed only recently, he said before declaring that the party has communal intention.

If such a party comes to power at the centre, what will be the fate of India, he asked.

Md Boiboi son of former minister (L) Aladdin Khan said that since his father’s time, the people of Keirao had been with the Congress.

He said after local MLA Thamarjit joined the party, it was believed that he will bring more supporters, however due to his behaviour; the party has failed to attract any supporter.
