IMPHAL, June 20: The Reformist Students Front has in a statement alleged the state government of its sheer negligence regarding the construction of a diversion bridge following the closure of Sanjenthong Bridge.
The diversion bridge which is being constructed at present not only encroaches the Mahabali area, but it also a holy place for the Meities, known as the Mongba Hanba Hiden.
It said, the student body along with Sanjenthong Bridge Diversion Demand Committee has demanded for a diversion bridge that is not far away from the Sanjengthong Bridge.
The Front is doubtful of the approach road that would connect the so called diversion bridge. Further, it has questioned the PWD engineers whether any survey were conducted before constructing the diversion bridge.
The student body has alleged the works department as one of the most corrupted department lacking in any vision. Following the closure of the Bridge, the most affected are the underprivileged students who are also the majority in the state.
These students have to spend extra fare as travel cost besides unnecessary waste of travel time, and at the same time earning of the daily wage earner have been severely affected by and large maintained the statement.
The student body has sought the attention of the Governor of Manipur into the matter. A personal visit from His Excellency the Governor of Manipur to the sites is most welcomed plead the release.
