National Lok Adalat to settle pending cases on December 6

IMPHAL, October 3: The Manipur State Legal Services Authority has said that necessary steps have been taken up to organize a National Lok Adalat to settle pending cases in the State.

It said in a press release that the Chief Justice of India and patron-in-chief, Justice HL Dattu and executive chairman, National Legal Services Authority Justice TS Thakur have directed to organize a single day second National Lok Adalat from the Supreme Court to the Taluk courts in the country.

Presently pending cases in the courts and pre-litigation cases will be taken up during the second lok adalat which will be organized on December 6, it said.

The statement continued that necessary steps have been taken up under the guidance of Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur and the patron-in-chief, MASLSA, Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra and Judge High Court and executive chairman, MASLSA Justice N Kotiswar Singh.

Types of cases to be taken up during the lok adalat are criminal compoundable cases, NI Act cases u/s.138, MACT Cases: Accident Information Report (AIR) cases and also State Transport cases, matrimonial / family cases, Labour disputes including where re-employment with no back wages (as per policy) could be disposed of and including cases relating to liquidation where claims of industrial workers for wages and other benefits are pending, land acquisition cases including relating to industrial boards, land acquisition for ONGC, railways and other centrally sponsored schemes and also land acquisition executions, civil cases such as rent, bank recovery, easementary rights, debt recovery tribunal cases, revenue cases, MNREGA, electricity and water bills (excluding theft cases), cases relating to sales tax, income tax, indirect tax (CESTAT) other revenue matters in Mumbai/Delhi other commercial centres, service matters relating to pay and allowances and retiral benefits, Forest Act cases,

Cantonment Boards matters, Railway Claims, Disaster compensation,

Misc. Appeals, Criminal Appeals, Civil Appeals, 2nd Appeals, Original suits, Writs, MACT Appeals before the High Court, Covered matters and

Pre-litigation matters, it said.

It has been requested to the general public and the head of departments/ offices of Central government/State of Manipur/ Non-Govt. Offices/ institution to send suitable cases (pending cases before the court/ pre-litigation cases) to Manipur State Legal Services Authority to reach on or before November 20 for referring in the National Lok Adalat to be held on December 6, it said.
