More development will follow with improvement in connectivity between India and Myanmar, Consul General Than Htwe

IMPHAL, November 22: The Indo Myanmar Fraternal Alliance, Manipur held a reception programme in honour of the Consul General of Myanmar to India in Kolkata, U Than Htwe and Vice consul, Kyaw Thu who visited the state in connection with Sangai Festival at the residence of its president RK Shivachandra.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul general Than Htwe said lots of people from Myanmar visited Manipur for medical treatment which was a good development.

Lots of grounds need to be covered for improving the conditions of the two countries. There is hope that more development will follow when the road connectivity and air-connectivity between the two countries improve, he added.

Meanwhile, RK Shivachandra said the Indo Myanmar Fraternal Alliance was established way back in 2003. For many years, the government harped about the importance of the Look East Policy without doing anything substantial, he alleged, adding that however as the Look East Policy is now being followed with vigour lots of changes are taking place in the state.

He also asked everyone to stay united.

In the state around 30, 000 metric tons of fish are required every year with 20, 000 metric tons being imported to meet the state`™s requirements. The Union government is also interested in importing rice from Myanmar, he said.

To create a cordial relationship between the two countries, borders should be opened and visa on arrival facility must be available, he opined.

President of Rashesori Pala, Dr Jamini also attended the function.
