IMPHAL, December 24: The All Loktak Lake Area Fishermen`™s Union Manipur, ALLAFUM, in public interest for fishers of Loktak has informed everyone concerning the recent announcement made by Loktak Development Authority, LDA in a release.
It said LDA staffs have been moving around floating villages of Loktak announcing that from December 26, 2014, fishing and all related activities will not be allowed from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm during the day.
The release lamented that no formal notification has been issued in this regard. It is not clear on what ground has the announcement been given. The announcement does not clarify the areas that will be banned from fishing and under what law has the decision been taken, it asked.
Further it claimed that the recent move by LDA is a direct threat to the existence of several thousands who are dependent on the lake for their life. ALLAFUM would like to make known that such a move will met with stiff opposition even as it appeal to relevant authorities for their right to live and fish on Loktak, it added.
