Dec 31 completion targeted for Ukhrul hospital, Phungzathang tells House

IMPHAL, December 19: The State government has already fixed December 31 as the completion deadline for the construction of the District Hospital, Ukhrul which was recently upgraded to a 100-bedded from a 50-bedded hospital, minister Phungzathang Tonsing informed the Manipur Legislative Assembly today.

He was replying to a question raised during Question Hour by Ukhrul MLA Samuel Risom during the second day of the ongoing Winter session.

The Health and Family Welfare minister further informed the House that the estimated cost for the construction of the 50-bedded hospital is Rs. 2434.37 lakhs with a balance amount of Rs 39.67 lakhs remaining.

The construction work has been awarded to contractors/ agencies Ashi Muivah, AS Clement, G Panmei, Gaikgolun Panmei, Mingyao Rulvanao and AS Silas.

In another query, the Ukhrul MLA questioned the targeted timeline for the completion of the construction of the District Sports Complex at Pakshi Ground and Tangkhul Naga Long Ground in Ukhrul district.

Replying to the NPF MLA`™s question, the Chief Minister who also holds the additional charge of the Youth Affairs and Sports said the government has set December 2015 as target for the completion of the two sports complex

Till date, Rs 366.66 lakhs have been spent for the construction of the two complexes with Rs 553.21 lakhs still remaining in balance, he said.

Although, the government had targeted completion of the two complexes by March 2014, due to the several physical disturbances created in the district and the State including bandhs and blockades, the targeted timeline couldn`™t be met and it had to be extended to December 2015, Ibobi continued.

However, the government is putting all efforts to complete both complexes by March 2015, he told the House.

Replying to a question from MLA Joykishan on the sanction amount for the Keishampat to Malom Bazar road widening process, the concerned minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said the work order was issued to two special class contractors Y Jugindro of Waikhom Leikai and Dilip Wahengbam of Khagempalli under the State Public Works Department.

He said Rs 46.43 lakhs and Rs 7.78 lakhs were for two works for an amount of Rs 54.29145 lakhs out of the total sanction amount of Rs. 7785.95 lakhs for the widening of National Highways-150 (from Keishampat to Malom Bazar) and that the remaining amount of Rs 7725.28 lakhs was deposited to the deputy commissioner/ collector land acquisition, Imphal West for land and standing properties compensation.
