AITUC, Manipur to launch agitation on Feb 26

IMPHAL, January 25: In a meeting conducted by the Bishnupur District AITUC Committee on January 24, the All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar has stated that in continuation of the nation-wide protest on December 5 last year in all the state capitals across the country raising 10 demands against the neo-liberal policies of the NDA government at the Centre favouring the capitalist class by changing labour laws, it will conduct a nation-wide campaign of courting arrests and going to jail on February 26, said a press release from AITUC, Manipur State Committee.

The AITUC, Manipur general secretary asked those present in the meeting to submit their names if they were interested in taking part in the nation-wide agitation as volunteers on February 26 and also stated that 10 demands would be raised, the release said.

The demands as enumerated by him were raising the minimum income of employees to Rs. 15,000, controlling inflation, stopping corruption, saving the lives of farmers, the immediate enforcement of a National Highway Protection Force, the development of the Imphal-Jiri road, availing 35 Kgs of rice at Rs.2 per kilo to all the families each month etc, the press release said.
