Civilian injured as grenades aimed at SF explodes at Moirang

IMPHAL, January 17: A civilian was injured when miscreants reportedly attacked a patrolling team of 2 JAKLI by lobbing hand grenades this afternoon along Tiddim road at Moirang.

Police source informed that the attack occurred around 1.35 pm near Moirang police station in between Moirang fire sub-station and the oil pump located along the Tidim road.

A team of the Gothol post 2 JAKLI were scattered at the area as a part of their routine patrol.

It is reported that the attacker who came in a four-wheeler lobbed two hand Chinese made grenades one at a time towards the security forces.

However, none of the security forces were injured in the attack. The explosion instead hit a Bolero travelling along the route and injured the driver besides inflicting damage to the vehicle.

The grenades reportedly exploded about 15 feet apart from each other.

The injured has been identified as one Yumnam Ranjan 29, son of Y Gobardhon of Uripok Kabrangbam Lamkhai. The Bolero bearing MN1W-3854 belong to Reliance Company.

Ranjan and another person were returning to Imphal from Churachandpur after doing repairing works of mobile towers.

A team of Bishnupur district police rushed to the area and a case has been registered with regards to the incident.

It may be noted that this is the second attack of 2015 on security forces. The first attacked of the year occurred on the night of January 14 at the Company Operation Base (COB) of the Assam Rifles situated at Machi during which two personnel were injured.
