Role of Meira Paibis fondly remembered

IMPHAL, May 28: The 17th `meira paibis numit`™ was observed today at Khurai Shalanthong, Tharo Devi Lampak Imphal East district organized by Meira Paibis Numit Observation Committee.

The observation was graced by, Political Science Professor MU, Kshetri Bimola Devi as the chief guest and Longjam Memchoubi, president- Poirei Leima Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur as function president.

Pebam Ibenungsi, president Meira Paibis Welfare Association Kangleipak (MEPWAK); Shakhi Leima, president AMKIL Phanjoubam; Yumnam Leirik Leima president KANGLAMEI; RK Tharaksana president WASEPDEV and Adikarimayum Redimala president IKAL, also attended as the guests of honour.

Speaking to media persons, Prof. Ksh Bimola Devi said that the day is a significant one for the Manipuri society as the meira paibi`™s contribution was enormous.

Ranging from confrontation against the Arm Forces Special Power Act 1958 and defending the territorial integrity of Manipur.

The word `meira paibee` has become prominent not in the state and India but across the globes, she continues it would continue to do so in the future.

While reacting to the current controversy surrounding the Dzuko Valley, the professor asserted that the `meira paibis` will not remain a silent spectator adding that it urged the Government to take necessary action to resolve the matter at the earliest.

Delivering the key note address, Kunjarani president of AMAWOVAY said that women in the region are lucky as they are not bound by any conservative barriers unlike very conservative societies elsewhere.

As a part of the observation ceremony various meira paibee also paid floral tribute to the statues of meira paibis erected at Shalanthong.
