IMPHAL September 4: Schools have finally reopened on the eve of teachers`™ day after almost two months of closure in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

`We are happy to be back to our normal routine, it is so good to see our class mates again, tuition is boring school is preferred, we miss school so much,` chorused a group of boys from Tiny Tots Unique School with cheerful smiles on their faces.

However teachers were not so jubilant about the reopening.

A teacher from Kids High School, Dewlahland shared `Uncertainty still looms on.`

`We have resumed full classes despite the poor attendance because there is so much to speed up and the situation is still so unpredictable.`

Unfortunately despite the return to normalcy atleast in the valley districts, some schools could not open today.

The van drivers association decided to delay it till Monday owing to the scarcity of petrol, another teacher from a popular private school conveyed.

The government had not made any special arrangement towards this scarcity of petrol due to the highway landslides, lamented a van driver.

It may be mentioned that the private schools association had earlier announced that schools will be reopened on August 17. However the schools had remained closed owing to the tense situation in the State.

All schools were shut following the August 8 incident when Sapam Robinhood died in police action during a rally demanding a legal protection for the indigenous people in Manipur.

On September 2, the Joint Students`™ Coordinating Committee, All Manipur Students`™ Guardians Association, All Manipur Private Schools Welfare Association, Private School Development Council, Thoubal and All Manipur School Students`™ Transporters Association convened a joint meeting.

Following which they had appealed to schools and colleges including Catholic and CBSE institutes to charge only 30 percent of the fees and pay only 50 percent salaries to the teachers for the last two months.

Likewise they had also appealed to all school service vehicles to charge only 50 percent for the said period.
