IMPHAL, Nov 30: A Chinese made hand grenade was detected early morning today around 3.15 at a residential area near the Koirengei Catholic Medical centre hospital under Heingang police station.
The grenade was recovered from the residence premises of one Kim, w/o Ahor. Kim is said to be a key worker of the congress party while her husband is said to be a special contractor.
Sources said that the grenade was found lying near the gate of the residence without the lever.
Later a team of police bomb expert retrieved the grenade safely.
On the other hand, police bomb expert also safely defused an Improvise Explosive Device (IED) weighing around 5 Kg this morning around 7.30 at a roadside leading to Itham Moirang Purel Dam Lamlai Police station.
Sources informed that the IED was a remote device and detected by pedestrian.
The road stretch is frequently used by the 49 Bn BSF of Ihtam Moirang Purel post for conducting ROP.
