CM appeals legal fraternity to uphold dignity of courts

IMPHAL, November 16: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has appealed to the members of the legal fraternity to uphold the dignity of the High Court and other subordinate courts in the State.

He was speaking as the chief guest in the closing function of the 3-day long silver jubilee celebration of the High court Bar Association of Manipur at the auditorium of the High Court of Manipur.

The CM asserted that lawyers have a significant role in the justice delivery system and as such they need to update their knowledge with constant reading.

He also appealed to all in the legal profession to be very sincere to the profession and furnish proper and effective legal advice to the litigants and the public for enabling the justice delivery at the doorstep.

For a strong and effective democratic form of governance, the three pillars of democracy namely legislature, executive and judiciary as well as media which is regarded as the fourth pillar need to be strengthened, Ibobi maintained.

The function was presided by Senior Advocate Kh Binoykumar Singh, president of High Court Bar Association of Manipur while Education/CAF & PD Minister M Okendra Singh and Judges of High Court of Manipur Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice Kh. Nobin Singh and Advocate General Manipur Th. Ibohal Singh were the guests of honour of the function.

To mark the occasion, a souvenir was released. During the function, floral tributes were paid to the departed souls of the members of the association.
