Centre for endangered languages opens

IMPHAL, Dec 15: Along with opening Kuurkaam Memorial Research Centre for Tribal and Endangered Languages at South East Manipur College Komlathabi (Kapaam), a thanks giving ceremony of Upa Roel Jindha Singh Moyon newly appointed village chief of Moyon Village was held today.

The programme organized by Th Angangjao Memorial Research Centre for Tribal and Endangered Languages was held at the residence of Dr Th Chandramani Singh, Koirou, Thongju part II.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Chandramani said that the programme was organized with the aim to preserve and protect the endangered languages of the State.

He maintained that prompt initiatives have been taken up to protect the endangered languages in sync with the acknowledgement of some local dialects by UNESCO as the endangered languages of the world.

Establishment of a research centre to study and preserve the languages and dialects of the State was in much need, he added.
