‘Daily Fish Stall’ avails indigenous fishes at subsidised rate

IMPHAL, December 24: Under the support of District Fishery Officer (DFO), Imphal East, ‘Daily Fish Stall’ which will avail varieties of fish to the public at subsidized rate was inaugurated in eastern part of Sanjenthong Bridge today.

Commissioner (Fisheries) Nobert Disinang; Director of Fisheries Kh Memcha Devi and Additional Director of Fisheries David K Shimray graced the inaugural function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

After its inauguration, the fish stall started selling varieties of fish including Pengba, Rou and Grass Carf at subsidized rate to the public.

Talking to this daily, secretary of Imphal West Fishermen’s Co-operative Federation Ltd K Nabachandra from Wangoi Makha Leikai said that the fish stall was sponsored by the federation with the objective of availing daily-need varieties of fish at lower rate to the people.

He informed that the stall being run with support from the Fishery Department will be opened from 2 pm to 7 pm daily.Efforts will be put in to avail indigenous fishes including Pengba and Khabak in the stall at lower rate, he added.

Stating that the federation has around 500 fishermen along with the incorporation of 11 registered cooperative societies and self help groups, Nabachandra exuded confidence that the stall will be able to avail daily-need indigenous fishes to the people.

The ‘Daily Fish Stall’ will avail varieties of fish at lower rate much lesser than the fish mela held last month ahead of the Ningol Chakouba festival, he said, adding that around 700 kilogram of varieties of fish was sold on first day itself.
