IMPHAL, December 23: Elected members of the urban local bodies should go hand in hand with the government to ensure welfare of the people, stated Works & Transport minister Dr Kh Ratankumar.
The minister was gracing a flag hoisting ceremony of a Congress candidate held today at Mayang-Imphal Chabung Company Leikai, ahead of the ensuing Mayang-Imphal Municipal Council election on January 11, 2016.
Speaking as chief guest, Dr Ratankumar exhorted elected Councillors of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats which act as urban local body to dedicatedly discharge service towards welfare of the people with transparency.
In doing so, the Councillors should coordinate with the government so as to achieve the target, he said.
Maintaining that the Congress government in the State is committed to meeting expectation of the people in every aspect, the Minister asserted that efforts are on to conduct the ensuing Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council election in free and fair manner. He called upon the people to strengthen the democracy by understanding the importance of elections.
The flag hoisting ceremony was for Chungkham ongbi Sangita Devi, Congress candidate for Ward No 12, Mayang- Imphal Municipal Council. Several persons including Chairperson of the council were present at the occasion.
Minister Ratankumar who is the MLA of Mayang-Imphal constituency also attended several flag hoisting ceremonies for other Congress candidates for the Municipal Council.
