MU kicks off National seminar on ‘General Relativity’

IMPHAL, December 21: A two-day national seminar on physicists Albert Einstein’s 100 years of General Relativity commenced today at the Department of Physics, Manipur University.

Speaking to media persons today, convener of the organizing committee of the National Seminar on 100 years of General Relativity, Prof N Nimai said that the seminar is dedicated to the celebration of 100 years of General Relativity which was first formulated by Albert Einstein in 1915.

The topic covered in this seminar will include classical and quantum gravity, cosmology, astrophysics, he said and added that the seminar is being organized to impart knowledge to the students and researchers who are interested in these areas of General Relativity.

He continued that the department has already opened specialization course on general relativity, cosmology, astrophysics and high energy physics.

Prof N Nimai opined that the seminar will help motivate the students and will provide the most recent advances of this field to the students.

In this connection a painting competition under the theme Life and work of Albert Einstein and a quiz competition on the topic Gravitation, Astrophysics and Cosmology were organized on December 19 and the prizes were distributed today.
