IMPHAL, December 14: Deposition of police personnel in connection with the death of Class XI student Sapam Robinhood before the Commission of Inquiry had to be discontinued midway today due to a power cut off at the State Guest House, Sanjenthong where the commission is conducting its proceeding.
Deposition of the police personnel before the commission in connection with the July 8 incident began today. As the commission’s proceeding was underway, a power cut off during cross examination of the first police personnel to depose off, disrupted the proceeding as it was learnt that the building has no power back-up facility.
The proceeding had to be discontinued from around 1:30 pm.
Meanwhile, in his statement, Deputy Superintendent of Police Imphal East L Deben Singh said on the day of the incident that is July 8, he was the overall in charge of security arrangement of the then ongoing Assembly session.
On the fateful day he was informed about a student rally in the Tellipati area from the Police Control Room, he added.
On getting the information, he rushed towards the area and was near when the incident occurred, he said in his statement which was recorded.
The remaining part of today’s proceeding will continue tomorrow. Another police officer will also depose before the commission tomorrow.
It may be mentioned here that according to reports altogether 13 affidavits from the side of police including one from the investigation officer (Porompat Police Station) of the case had been submitted to the commission.
Mentioned may also be made that there is only 40 days left for the inquiry commission to submit its report to the government.
The Commission of Inquiry is headed by Justice M Binoykumar and it is represented by Senior Advocate S Lakhikanta; the police is represented by Senior Advocate H Chandrajit Sharma, while the JAC formed against the killing of Robinhood is represented by Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani, advocate Meihoubam Rakesh and their team.
