Cracks at Singda Dam, Kangla historical monuments damaged

IMPHAL, January 4: Today’s earthquake also damaged some major structures and historical monuments. According to reliable sources, there are at least three cracks in the Singda Dam, which is located along the Imphal-Kangchup road and comes under Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station , Sadar Hills.

This was informed by secretary of Singda Naharol Yaipha Thouni Kanglup, Ksh Nabakumar.

Damages were also witnessed at Kangla historical site. Among the 12 pillars located at the Govinda Beithop, 10 pillars have sustained cracks. The newly restored Govindaji temple at Kangla also was damaged at the top as cracks appeared on the sides.

It may be mentioned that the Govindaji Temple had once collapsed in 1869 when an earthquake hit at around 4.45 pm on January 5.

This happened when R Brown was the political agent. The temple was later shifted to the Wangkhei Palace Compound afterwards.
