IMPHAL, January 2: With the election of 18 Municipal Councils and eight Nagar Panchayats scheduled for January 11 coming closer, election preparation as for Thoubal district is going in full swing.
Hoisting of flags for candidates of the election, seeking of votes by candidates and its workers door to door and sticking posters of candidates and their party symbols on walls have been continuing enthusiastically.
Electric poles in the district have been adorned with party flags, wooing voters.
As far Thoubal district, altogether 93 candidates will contest in eight Municipal Councils having 84 Wards and one Nagar Panchayat constituting nine Wards.
Two Ward Development Committee Members for each of the wards will also be elected in the election.
A total of 213 polling stations have been opened, where 98, 774 eligible voters will cast vote to decide fate of the candidates.
The eight Municipal Councils are Thoubal Municipal Council, Lilong Municipal Council, Yairipok Municipal Council, Sikhong-Sekmai Municipal Council, Wangjing-Lamding Municipal Council, Kakching Municipal Council, Kakching Khunou Municipal Council and Sugunu Municipal Council.
Heirok Nagar Panchayat is the lone Nagar Panchayat in the district.
