RIMS gets approval for admitting 100 MBBS students for another 5 years

IMPHAL, December 31: Following the Medical Council of India (MCI) inspection on two occasions, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) affiliated to Manipur University has now been given okayed for recognition for admitting 100 MBBS students per year for another five years.

Informing this in a press release issued by its Media Advisor, the MCI usually conducts surprise inspections to various Medical Colleges of both Government as well as Private Institutions to assess the infrastructure facilities, staff strength and other requirements.

It said requirements also differ depending on the number of MBBS seats admitted annually.

For a new medical college, inspection is carried out annually till the 5th year and then recommended for recognition for a period of five years. For established medical colleges like RIMS, MCI inspection is usually carried out every five years to extend recognition after compliance verification assessment of the physical and other teaching facilities available, it stated.

Saying that the RIMS established in 1972 by the name of Manipur Medical College has attained 43 years of its existence and service to the humanity, the release said during the recent past, the MCI inspected RIMS in September 2014 and gave comment to improve and develop some facilities in the institute.

Accordingly the RIMS authority managed to fulfil the requirements as pointed out by the MCI. And the MCI again inspected the Institute during June, 2015.

The MCI has however, maintains that they may conduct surprise inspections any time for quality and quantity maintenance, added the release.
