BISHNUPUR, January 21: The Society for Disabled Care celebrated its 7th Foundation Day at the Hiyangthang Maning Leikai Imoinu Market Complex.

The celebration was attended by CADA chief engineer Konthoujam Manoranjan Singh, SDC Hiyangthang president L Apabi Mangang, Hiyangthang Gram Panchayat member L Somola Devi, advocate Y Kiran, All Manipur Handicapped Persons Welfare Association president T Romio Singh as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Kiran said we speak of supporting and encouraging the differently abled but never actually do so.

Citing as an example, he said banks are reluctant to give loans to People With Disabilities persons thinking they might not be able to repay them; however, they will provide loans to the rich who have current accounts in their name without any hesitation, he added.

He said there is a need to change such mind-set.

Manoranjan said setting up of organisations to encourage and support the differently abled is a laudable act.

Further continuing his speech, Manoranjan said it is time for the people to reflect on the common practice of constructing community halls in open fields and by filling up ponds considering the generations coming up in another 20/30 years-time.

If all the open fills are thus occupied, there will be no playground in some years, he observed.

Several persons with People With Disabilities were also felicitated during the function.
