Workshop aims to educate Science teachers on low cost experiments

IMPHAL, January 27: A four-day long Residential Training Workshop on Low Cost Hands on Experiment was inaugurated today at the Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak.

The workshop will deliberate on how teachers should impart education to their students and conduct science experiment at low cost.

The teachers in the field of science attended the workshop which is jointly organized by Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC) and Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science Technology, Government of India, New Delhi “Residential Training Workshop on Low Cost Hands.”

Speaking at the function, MASTEC director Th Surendranath asserted teachers only focus on completion of their academic syllabus without conducting proper science experiments or skipping most of the experiments included in their syllabus although all such experiments are very much important to a science student.

He further said that skipping science experiment might be due inadequate infrastructure of the institution; however, the experiments could be conducted at low cost or managed at low cost.

Surendranath asserted that scientists who are experts in this field will be showing around 70 experiments at low cost during the programme, he said.

On February 10 a similar workshop will be conducted for teachers in the hills, he said and added that the workshop will also help groom local resource persons in the field of science.

During the workshop science kits and books were gifted to teachers by Vigyan Prasar.
