Distressed electricity employees stage sit-in

IMPHAL, February 9: Pressing its long standing demand for service regularization for Work-Charge and Muster Roll employees under Manipur State Power Company Limited and Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited, Manipur Electricity Employees’ Union (MEEU) staged a sit-in-protest in front of Thoubal Division Electricity office at Thoubal Athokpam today.

Speaking to news persons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, president of MEEU Yumnam Ranapratap said that Work-Charge and Muster Roll employees have been reeling under intense hardships unlike regular employees though the work loads are same.

He lamented that the employees are deprived of medical reimbursement and provision of three times service promotion by the Electricity Department, which is highly unacceptable.

Ranapratap reiterated that the authorities concerned of the department had been repeatedly urged to address the grievances being faced by the employees.

The meagre salary of Work-Charge and Muster Roll employees is not able to sustain livelihood of their families which the government failed to intervene so far, he rued.

He pledged to launch different forms of agitation by the union till the future of the distressed employees numbering around 367 is secured.

The sit-in-protest was staged in hands with employees of Thoubal Division Electricity.

It may be mentioned that the union had staged sit-in-protest demonstrations at the complex of Electricity Department, Imphal on January 19, MSPDCL office at 2nd MR on February 3, Moreh, Moirang and several other places.
