Head constable Herojit all set for February 20 court date

IMPHAL, February 17: Manipur Police head constable Thounaojam Herojit Singh, who had earlier failed to appear before the court of district and sessions, Imphal West at Cheirap Court Complex on February 2, has prepared himself for his next appearance due to be held on February 20.

Speaking to media persons at an undisclosed location late in the evening today, Herojit, clarified that he missed court summon last time for he was not prepared for the appearance.

He divulged that he is not going to miss his next appearance.

Claiming that his stand was steadfast, Herojit also distributed an affidavit, an oath taken before the oath commissioner substantiating his intention.

He claimed that his admission to killing Sanjit was in his own discretion and not influence by anyone or, under any drugs or intoxicants. And, that it was given in the best interest of justice and for a secure future of the people of Manipur and vowed not to retract his admission.

Herojit reiterated that he does not wish to plead bargain in the case admitting his guilt of the ‘inhuman crime’ committed by him by following order of a superior officer.

In the meantime, he once again thanked the people for being patient and behind him adding that he will not betray the trust of the people.

It may be recalled that Thounaojam Herojit Singh, who had confessed to have killed Sanjit following the order of his superior officer, missed court appearance on February 2 leaving the public curious.

Subsequently, the counsel of Herojit, S Lakhikanta Singh prayed before the court to grant 10 days-time for production of Herojit citing failure to communicate with him.
