IMPHAL, February 17: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has resumed its ‘Save Indigenous People Campaign’ with the objective of spreading the awareness on the issue to the people and pressurise the Centre to give its assent to the three bills passed by the State Assembly on August 31, 2015.

The state-wide campaign was re-launched today at the Keishampat junction with the conduct of poster campaigns and street corner meetings.

Similar campaigns and meetings were conducted at different areas of Imphal today.

Speaking on the sideline of the occasion, JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan said the Centre should not suppress the three bills which were unanimously passed by the State Legislative Assembly, but instead provide its assent to the bills in the interest of the indigenous people of Manipur at the earliest for which the State government should also pressurise the Centre.

He said the committee will continue with the agitations until the ILPS or a similar Act is implemented for the protection of Manipur and its indigenous people.

He said the committee is also ready to hold meetings with those opposing the three bills and hope to bring an amicable solution.

He further demanded the State government to control the influx of illegal migrant workers in the State.

Ratan also reiterated the committee’s previous stance to conduct checkings of migrant workers of whether they hold Id cards issued by the Labour department under the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1978 which is extended to the throughout the country.
