KANGPOKPI, February 1: The Kuki Students’ Organization-GHQ and All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) have decided to suspend its proposed indefinite highways bandh starting this midnight for 10 days today.

The decision to suspend the bandh was taken in the aftermath of the nearly 2 hours long meeting held late in the evening today with the government, said Seiboi Haokip, general secretary, KSO-GHQ and AC Thotso, Education secretary, ANSAM in a joint press statement.

Education minister Moirangthem Okendro, IFC minister Ngamthang Haokip, Education (S) commissioner T Vaiphei and Education (S) director N Praveen Singh represented the State government while a team of eight members led by Paotinthang Lupheng, president, KSO-GHQ and Seth Shatshang, president, ANSAM represented the student bodies.

The meeting was held at the office chamber of Education minister Okendro this afternoon around 2. It also said during the meeting the government assured us to fulfill the demands within the stipulated 10 days time.

However, the two student bodies warned that if the State government fails to materialize its assurance within the stipulated time the suspended stir could come into force at any time.

The two apex student bodies had yesterday decided to go ahead with the proposed indefinite bandh in all highways of the state including NH-2 (Dimapur-Moreh), NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) and NH-150 (Jesami-Mizoram) scheduled to begin this midnight alleging that the Government of Manipur failed to give positive response over their memorandum to regularize the service of the hill districts contract basis teachers 2006 batch under the Directorate of Education (S) and to rule out the problems of acute shortage of teacher in the hills schools and to bring justice towards the downtrodden teachers.
