IMPHAL, Feb 16: Taking strong exception to the broad daylight killing of Sanjit and Rabina at the busy BT Road on July 23, 2009 and the government’s inaction thereafter, the Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has imposed a 12 hours State-wide general strike on February 21 with effect from 5 am.

Electricity, water supply, medical and religious activities are not covered by the strike, said a press statement of the outfit.

The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur, in the statement signed by its Secretary Publicity and Propaganda Comrade Nonglen Meitei said the government still prefers to remain mute spectator on the killing case despite the sensational confession of the Head Constable who declared that he was ordered to kill Sanjit by a superior officer.

The strike being called to also serve as a reminder to the people who are fuming over the killing due to the utter silence on the part of the government, will not affect conduct of educational institutions, it said.

Contending that the government is trying to suppress truth of the infamous killing which the people are well aware of, the outfit pledged to represent the public voice on the killing as frontal organizations remain unresponsive.

Public movement has to be spearheaded by an organization to carry forward towards the right direction in order to meet any collective target. Unfortunately there has been no collective movement against the killing of Sanjit and Rabina so far, it stated.

The outfit said all the fake encounters carried out in the State can be unearthed if there is relentless mass movement.

It appealed to the people to extend full support to the general strike by blocking roads in every localities and chanting slogans demanding betting punishment to those involved in the killing.

The outfit also appealed to supporters of the strike to not disturb media and religious activities during the course of the strike.
