IMPHAL, February 1: A group of womenfolk from Nambol area today locked down the Electricity department sub-division office alleging the transfer of the sub-division’s manager L Joykumar to be a political move.
Around 11:30am, a group of womenfolk under the aegis of a JAC formed against the transfer of Joykumar stormed the office of the assistant engineer of the sub-division and locked the office.
The womenfolk also staged a sit in protest in front of the office displaying various placards like “Cant the sub-division have good managers” “No politics in power corporation” “MSPDCL must not transfer the newly posted manager Joykumar from Nambol sub-division.”
Speaking to media persons, convenor of the JAC Nameirakpam said the JAC is demanding the government to cancel its transfer order at the earliest.
He said earlier when the people demanded transfer of the past managers who the people didn’t want the government failed to do so.
Joykumar was posted in the sub-division last year in March, he said adding that soon after his arrival, power supply in the area covered under the sub-division including Nambol and some parts of Oinam, Konthoujam and Sadar Hills had improved.
The AE has not even completed a year when he was transferred, he added.
The government’s move seems to be politically motivated, he charged.
He further said that people of Nambol and other areas had infact started to hope for improvement of the power supply under the AE.
He further warned of stronger protest including bandh of the Tiddim Road if the government fails to cancel the transfer order within February 4.
One of the protestors, Th (o) Sonia said the people are satisfied with L Joykumar and had even started paying regular tax.
Meanwhile, the Development and Protection, United Voluntary Organisation, nambol has said in a press statement that the transfer order of Manager L Joykumar issued on January 30 should be cancelled at the earliest.
