IMPHAL, February 17: Hundreds of local people including school students staged sit in protest today at the Khurai Lamlong Bazar urging the State government to give befitting punishment to the culprits involved in the killing of Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina at Khwairamband Keithel on July 29, 2009.
Speaking to the media persons in the sideline of the protest, JAC convener Th Anita said that Herojit’s confessional statement which was published in the newspapers is very important and people of the State need to stand by his side. Herojit will give his statement to the court on February 20, she said.
Anita stated that the government should to take up necessary actions as the truth has been revealed.
The protestors also demanded to stop fake encounters and extrajudicial killings in the State.
The JAC will continue to take up many forms of agitations with the support of civil organisations, until their demands are med, Anita added.
The agitators used many placards reading “Justice coming”, “Sanjit Ki Mihatta Chennaba Sing Athubada Cheirak Piyu” “Extrajudicial execution da chennabasing cheirak piyu” etc.
Many civil organisation leaders including Apunba Lup Co-ordinators Phulindro Konsom and Sunil Karam; Human Right Defender Manipur Chairman Joy Chingakham etc also attended the demonstration.
