ZYF threatens indefinite blockade along NH 37 from February 20

IMPHAL, February 18: The Zeliangrong Youth Front, ZYF has extended its call for closure of government offices in the Tamenglong district by three more days and threatened to to intensify its agitations by imposing indefinite blockade along NH 37 and banning of national, international projects undergoing in the Zelliangrong areas with effect from February 20, if the State government fails to translate its demands, said ZYF president Titus Kamei.

In a press statement, Titus said that the decision was taken during the executing meeting of ZYF after the government failed to give any positive response even after three days of agitation of closing down government office from February 17 till February 19 demanding relocation of the DC Office and other government offices to the newly constructed district secretariat.

It may be recalled that the district secretariat was constructed at an amount of Rs 36 crores and Rs. 26 lakhs and the said building was also already inaugurated on November 3, 2011 by P Chidambaram, the then Union Home Minister, Government of India. Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and many Ministers, MLAs and other Government top officials also attended in the said inauguration function.

The ZYF has appealed to all the agencies/companies engaged in execution of works for national and international in Tamenglong district and Zeliangrong areas to extend full cooperation and support to its demands.

If any untoward incident occur during the agitation the agency or company will take their own risks and responsibility, it said

The ZYF also expressed gratitude to the people of the district for extending overwhelming cooperation and lending moral and physical support towards the cause of the people of the district.
