IMPHAL, March 13: The 20th Foundation of Zeliangrong Women Union (ZWU) Tamenglong zone was held today at the Zeliangrong House, Apollo Bazaar in Tamenglong.
The foundation day was attended by SP Athui, chairman Zeliangrong Union (ZU) Tamenglong zone, Hukamang Gangmei, President Chairmen Association Tamengong, Hubuiyang former ZU Tamenglong, village/ward Chairmen, etc.
Lungniliu Gangmei, president ZWU Assam Manipur & Nagaland, Sarah Ngaomei, Co-Convener ZWU Tamenglong zone, SP Athui, chairman ZU Tamenglong zone, were other dignitaries present during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Lungniliu Gangmei, president ZWU (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) acknowledging the effort of the ZWU, said that the women union work ceaselessly even in times of conflict.
ZWU Tamenglong district was divided into four zones including Zeliangrong Tamenglong zone, Tamei zone, Nungba zone and Tousem zone. But only Tamenglong zone is actively working for the welfare of people, she said.
She also mentioned that in Zeliangrong society, leaders are like ‘dispensable’. Once he/she is is retired from an organisation they are considered become and there services are no longer required, she added.
SP Athui, chairman ZU Tamenglong zone said that ZWU is the strongest union and mostly working for the welfare of the people.
He said that women play a major role in the society even in times crises. As women leader, she needs to work and cooperate with different organisation’s leaders and above all she should dutiful at home, she asserted.
While urging the woman to put away the inferiority complex of being a ‘woman’ SP Athui said that woman are vital in shaping a good society.
