IMPHAL, March 17: The Core Banking Solution CBS which was launched at the Imphal Head Post Office and subsequently in 16 other post offices has become a failed initiative in the State, leaving more than a lakh customer anxious and worried.
The CBS was launched in the Imphal Head Office on April 27, 2015 for the first time in the State. It was subsequently opened at 16 other branches which are Langjing CRPF camp, DM College Campus; Imphal Bazar, Kakching, Lamphelpat, Lamsang, Lilong, Loktak project, Manipur University, Mantripukhri, Mao, Nambol, Pallel, Sekmai, Senapati and Wangjing.
However, some months back, the system failed in all the post offices other than the Imphal Head Post Office, and has failed to provide its benefits to more than one lakh customers.
There are also claims that the customers are neither able to withdraw nor deposit amounts, and that the staffs of the post offices are unable to state with any certainty about when it will start functioning again.
IFP went to the Imphal Head Post Office and enquired about the issue from officials including the assistant administrator and found out that the CBS has become defunct in all POs except in the Imphal Post Office.
However, it was also claimed that the system failure was due to the failure of the internet linking provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
The officials also maintain that if the internet linking is provided properly, the system will revive on its own.
They further said that they are sending official letters to the top officials of BSNL to ensure proper supply of the internet linking and said it will be functioning again soon.
