Chaoba seeks support from Canada government on Manipur issues

IMPHAL, March 10: BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba today sought support of the Canada government in resolving Manipur’s problems, during a meeting with visiting first secretary (political affairs) Canadian High Commission to India, Mira Chatt and senior analyse from High Commission of Canada Madhu Das.

The two officials of the Canada government are presently in the State capital.

During the hour long meeting with the two dignitaries today, Chaoba dwelled on the problems and prospects of development and peace in Manipur.

He further discussed various issues relating to governance and urged the visiting dignitaries to extend co-operation and support to the State.

While discussing the ever decreasing wetland cover in Manipur, the BJP State president referred the initiatives being taken up by the Canada government in the preservation of wetland and further urged cooperation in the State’s effort to reclaim the lost wetland of the region.

Wetlands cover nearly 2.37 percent of Manipur’s total geographical area which is 22,327 sq km. There were about 155 wetlands across the State; however, according to a recent survey conducted by the Remote Sensing Application Centre of Manipur government, there are 17 lakes and two ox-bow lakes in the State.
