IMPHAL, March 10: The dissident group of the Congress apparently has intensified its campaign as latest reports stated that the total strength of dissident MLAs currently camping in the national capital has reached 23.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has reportedly left Imphal today for the national capital following the report of the clandestine campaign of the dissident group in the national capital.

At the same time, sources have informed that two more MLAs of the party will be joining the dissident group in Delhi tomorrow which would bring their total strength to 25.

Speaking over the phone, a top functionary of the MPCC, who is currently in Kerala campaigning for the party ahead of the State’s general election, has confirmed the strength of the dissident group.

Further the MPCC executive disclosed that the dissident group has acquired an appointment with the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi tomorrow.

Moreover, a senior politician of the party observed that the unfolding episode was imminent right from the initial stage for the MPCC has been given free hand by the high command.

It is very unfortunate that the so called ‘internal’ crisis has become ‘external’, said the veteran adding that he attributed it to the failure of the leaders to restructure the system in time.

He disclosed that he had apprised and warned Rahul Gandhi twice, while he was the general secretary of AICC, about the possible danger to the extent that he (veteran politician of MPCC) was ready to resign from the party if proven wrong, otherwise suggested restructuring the system within the MPCC.

Even as he firmly stood against defection upholding the interest of the party, if circumstances compel the choices can be very obvious, further opined the veteran politician.
