Furniture at HSLC exam centre borrowed from church due to govt apathy: Somdal VA

IMPHAL, March 12: Somdal Village deputy chairman RV Katuiyo has claimed that the Nk Somdal Higher Secondary School, Somdal private centre has to borrow desks and benches from the local church to ensure that the candidates are able to sit for their class X board exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, as the government has failed to provide any infrastructure to the school in the last 17 years.

Speaking to media persons at the school Katuiyo urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter immediately.

Over 375 students from 15 schools are allocated in the private centre, however, due to the lack of furniture, the school has to take help from the local church, he rued.

Nk Somdal Higher Secondary School was established in the year 1953, however, the government failed to look into the construction of a proper school building, provision of furniture and infrastructures, he claimed.

At present, the school has five undergraduate and three graduate teachers, he said. The school has no mathematics and science teachers and principal, he said.

He continued there is no proper boundary fencing and as such during the examination, there are lots of distractions and chaos.

Some student organisations like Zingtun Tankhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL) and Somdal Katamnao Long (SKL) have been checking the use of unfair means in the examination; however, they are also facing a lot of inconvenience due to the lack of a proper fencing, he added.

On the other, Somdal Students Union president Ngahancing Kamram appealed to the concerned authority to construct new hostels in Somdal village for the welfare of students.

A previous hostel was razed to ground by a fire in February 22, last, he added.

He said students from the surrounding villages study in the school, and as such students from outside the village face a lot of inconveniences during the time of examinations.

The student leader said that over 170 students are studying in this school and 30 students are appearing in the ongoing class X examination.
