IMPHAL, March 14: The Imphal-Irilbung passenger auto service was suspended today in protest against an alleged assault of an auto driver by two miscreants on March 11. The auto drivers today staged a sit in protest at Irilbung.

According to the protestors, Takhelchangbam Sanaton Sharma, 25, son of (L) Lala Sharma of Irilbung was assaulted by two drunk miscreants on March 11 in the evening.

Around 5pm of the said day, Sanaton was coming in his auto-rickshaw to drop students for tuitions in Imphal, they said.

The protestors also said he was stopped at Kongba Lairenpat near the newly constructed oil pump under Irilbung Police Station by two persons.

When Sanaton asked the two to wait for another auto-rickshaw as he was supposed to drop the students at their tuition centre, the two slapped him and kicked his vehicle in front of the young students, according to the protestors.

The protestors also demanded the authorities concerned to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
