IMPHAL, February 4: The Postal Services staffs of the State have demanded the transfer of director Postal Services Manipur Division Imphal Vinod Kumar from the State at the earliest, charging him of wilful harassment of a woman staff in a public place on March 3.
Making their demand, the staffs launched an indefinite cease work strike from Friday.
As part of their agitation, the postal staffs also staged a sit in protest at their office premise.
Speaking to this reporter at the protest site, the All India Postal Employees Union P-III and P-IV Manipur Division Branch, Imphal secretary organisation N Gojendra Singh said the postal staffs strongly condemn the Vinod Kumar’s misbehaviour with the woman staff in front of the public.
The staffs also demanded that the DPS, Manipur Division Imphal has to tender an unconditional apology to the staffs of the Manipur Division and the circle administration should initiate appropriate actions to transfer the responsible officer from the division, he said.
Gojendra said that the postal directorate is also requested to initiate appropriate disciplinary action against Vinod Kumar for his misbehaviour with a subordinate staff.
He said if their demands are not met, the staff union of Manipur postal division will be compelled to decide on future course of agitations.
The secretary also claimed that the director has been making the Manipur postal staffs to work overtime without availing any benefit unlike in other places.
He said the victim has also filed a complaint to the All India Postal Employees Union, P-III, Manipur division, Imphal.
According to the statement of the alleged victim, she was waiting for transportation to go to her office around 8:35am on March 3, when the DPS Manipur Division suddenly approached her and made a verbal query for her presence there.
After she replied that she was waiting for an autorickshaw, the DPS despite the fact that the office timing was 9am and she had enough time to reach office in time asked her why she was late, she claimed.
She added the DPS with the least etiquettes and manner shouted at her and abused her in the public place defying her dignity as an individual.
She said being a woman, such type of humiliation in front of the general public has seriously hurt her modesty as a woman.
