IMPHAL, March 2: The Muslim Students’ Development Organisation has stated that Puliepokpi Tentha Khunou primary school and Sangaiyumpham primary school were found to be in a very dilapidated condition during an investigation by a team of the organisation held on March 2.

According to a release of the organisation, the Puliepokpi primary school (class 1-5) has only a total of 163 students and has been taught by 3 teachers of which one of them has been utilized form another school. Due to the lack of teaching staff the Headmaster, Md. Majir Ali has hired another teacher from the local area.

Moreover, due to lack of textbooks, the Headmaster bought the remaining textbooks for the students. There was lack of proper toilet facility. Despite the temporary makeshift kitchen, mid day meal was still provided, it said.

The Sangaiyumpham primary school was in an even worse state. Although the school consisted of 4 teachers, one has been utilized by another school and order has also been carried to utilize another one of the teacher. Only 52 textbooks were provided and construction of the toilet is still unfinished. The school has no kitchen. Of the 4 classrooms, one has been used as the office for the staff. Due to the lack of classroom, two classes are carried out in a single room, it said.

The organisation has demanded the Education department to look into the two schools and to provide the needed teachers and to take up action against those responsible for inferior infrastructure of the schools. It also demanded to the concerned authority to take up action within 15 days otherwise the organisation will take up the issue to the Prime Minister, HRD Minister and Minority Affairs Minister. Preparation has already made for the benefit of the students, it said.
