SDPO found dead in suspicious manner

IMPHAL, March 3: A Sub Divisional Police Officer of the Manipur Police department was today found dead in a suspicious manner from a room inside his home which was locked from outside. The body was found in a party decomposing state.

The police officer is identified as Nehemiya, 58 originally from Grehang Village, Ukhrul and presently staying at the house on 1st Street, D Block, Nagaram.

He is presently posted as the SDPO Tousem.

According to sources, he had taken his leave from the Tamenglong District Police Headquarter on February 25, after assuming the additional charge of the SDPO Nungba some days back. He was given the additional charge after the SDPO Nungba went on leave, informed the source.

It is also learnt that although, he left for Imphal after getting his leave, his mobile phone cannot be contacted since February 26.

On reaching Imphal, he is said to have visited his daughter who is also in Imphal. However, the daughter who had gone to Ukhrul after his visit, on her return to Imphal thought he might have returned to his posting place and never visited him.

However, today when people broke open the locked door of his house after a foul smell came out, he was found dead lying face up on his sofa, according to the sources.

His face, legs, hands and other parts of his body had already started to decompose.

As the house was found locked from outside, foul play is suspected.

Nehemiya has two wives but was staying alone in his house.

The police accompanied by forensic experts and finger print experts have started investigation. The dead body has been picked up and deposited at the RIMS hospital for post mortem.
