IMPHAL, April 18: Based on specific intelligence regarding movement of the UG cadres, troops of the 29 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation in general area of Aibol Joupi village in Chandel district and apprehended three MNRF cadres along with warlike stores on April 16 and 17.
PRO IGAR (S) in a press release identified the apprehendees as SS Sgt Maj Athoi alias Wangshumi, 26 son of Huormi Hungyo, resident of Leihaoram Ukhrul; SS Sgt Wasingam, 30 son of David, resident of Chakhama, Ukhrul and SS Sgt Reinsing, 20 son of Yewung, resident of Kalhang Ukhurl.
A civil guide for UG cadres namely Tongjathang, 30 son of Jangkhomang, resident of Thingphil Myanmar was also apprehended by the troops.
He was guiding the UG cadres to reach their destination.
According to the release, one AK 56 series Assault Rifle along with two magazines, one AK 81 (5.56 mm) along with two magazines, one HK 33 Assault Rifle (5.56 mm) along with two magazines, one hundred twenty numbers of 5.56mm ammunition, sixty numbers of 7.62mm ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade and another incriminating articles were recovered from their possession.
The apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to the Kakching Police Station, it said.
