Family refuses to accept Pittaranjan’s body

IMPHAL, April 26: Family members have refused to accept the body of Bachaspatimayum Pittaranjan alias Korabin although post mortem was conducted at the RIMS mortuary this afternoon.

It may be mentioned that 24-year old Pittaranjan’s body was recovered from Langkhong Village under Kashom Khullen Police Station in Ukhrul district. The boy is from Nongmeibung Old Checkon Road.

The JAC formed against the incident has in the meantime set a three day deadline for the concerned authorities to produce the assailants involved in the crime, and further declared that the body will not be accepted unless the culprits are arrested.

It has also announced to launch several agitations against the incident.

Locals of Nongmeibung and its surrounding areas also staged a sit in protest at the Nongmeibung Old Checkon junction by closing the Old Checkon Road in front of the Ananda Higher Secondary School.

JAC and its supporters also made business establishments at Palace Gate, New Checkon, New Checkon Road, Pureiromba Khongnangkhong, Nongmeibung Nambam Chuthek and Old Checkon Road to close down for the day.

Meanwhile, there are no reports of any arrest in connection with the incident.

It may be mentioned that Pittaranjan had left his house on April 19 and his body was recovered on the afternoon of April 24.
