IMPHAL, April 6: Agitating members and volunteers of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students’ Union today burned books which they claimed are outdated in front of the Administrative Block, protesting the failure of the government to meet its demand.

The union has also resolved to shut down all activities in the IGNTU temporary campus, Adim Jati Shiksha Ashram, Chingmeirong and the main campus at Makhan Village, Sekmai from today, said its president Hemkholen Haokip today at Adimjati.

He said the union has made several demands to IGNTU VC Amarkantak, which include proper maintenance of library by updating magazines and books, increase seat for PhD and to shift the university to its permanent location at Makhan Village, Sekmai.

Meanwhile, the union has also warned that their agitation will continue and it could only escalate if their demands are not addressed in the near future.

He further appealed to concern authority to look into the matter at the earliest to avoid confrontation.
