MU gets own Clock Tower

IMPHAL, April 5: Manipur University vice chancellor Prof H Nandakumar Sarma today inaugurated the University Clock Tower.

The inaugural function was held at the Manipur University Library building.

While speaking to the media Prof Nandakumar Sarma said that the clock tower is set to ring at 5am, 9am, 12am, 3pm, 5pm and 9pm everyday.

He said the clock which cost Rs 27 lakhs is maintenance free and comes with a seven day power back up.

Professor mentioned that the regular bells of University Clock tower will help the students in their daily routine works.

He said the University Clock Tower also has an inbuilt GPS system.

Speaking further on the development works of the Manipur University, he said that an International Guest House, Auditorium of 500 seating capacity will soon be completed. He said that the developmental work estimating of Rs 100 crores will also include construction of hostel, faculty quarters.

VC also mentioned that Manipur University will have new departments of Fine Arts and LML approved by the UGC and the said two departments are ready to start session from this academic year.

He said that another department of National Security Studies is also in the pipeline and for the purpose expert committee is formed for layout of its syllabus.
