School run inside community hall: Machi block village school headmistress

IMPHAL, April 6: The Machi Block Chiefs/ Chairmen Association (MBCCA) today conducted a field visit in some of the backward villages in Machi block, Chandel district.

The team led by its president L Angacha visited Maryland, Ringpham, Machi, Khunbi villages etc and witnessed the development projects taken up in the villages.

The village chiefs pointed out before the accompanying media persons that Maryland Village is one of the most backward villages in Machi Block.

Village headman of Maryland Js Mayarchung said the village was set up in the 1970s and today it has around 56 households with a total population of about 300.

However, the village still has no school building, proper water supply, playground and anganwaddi centre, he added.

He further urged the government to take up immediate measures to help the villages.

Headmistress of the school Hb Donring stressed that the school has been running without a proper building since 2013.

She said the school is being run inside the village community hall with permission from the village authority.

Further elaborating on the problems faced by the school, she said there are no separate classes and all the students sit in the same hall.

She said there are no furniture including proper benches, desks, blackboards in the school which has around 25 students studying in class I to V. there are only three primary teachers, she said.

The headmistress said since the government has not allotted any quarter for her, she is staying at the headman’s house.

She further urged the concerned authority to intervene and take immediate measures.

Taking serious note of the government apathy towards the Machi block area, Angacha appealed to the Machi SDO and officials to attend their office regularly.

He added the association will continue to conduct surprise visits of the other remaining villages of Machi block.

The MBCCA members further appealed to the concerned departments to release all pending bills for development works taken up within the Machi block without further delay.

MBCCA secretary M Morung, Advisor K Shagamshel, Joint Secretary M Thamsing, As Yarprao also participated in the tour.
