IMPHAL, April 23: A woman sustained serious burn injuries after her house caught fire around 11:30 last night at Kwakeithel Lamdong.
She was rushed to the RIMS for treatment.
The house belongs to Thounaojam Shantikumar Singh, 36, son of (L) Th Achou Singh who is the younger brother of the injured victim.
The woman identified as Th Shantibala Devi, 46 suffered burn injuries all over her body including hands, legs and back.
The house has a wooden first floor, with a concrete ground floor.
The house which has originally four rooms has some extended rooms, according to sources.
According to family members, the fire erupted from the first floor and could have been ignited by an electric short circuit.
The entire first floor and all the belongings inside have been destroyed in the fire.
It took around 2hours and 30 minutes for the fire team to control the fire from extending to the neighbouring buildings.
Shantibala was sleeping in a room inside the first floor along with a young girl, and she had sustained the fire while trying to save the girl from the fire. She is stated to be in a critical condition.
