IMPHAL, May 20: The 38 hour JCILPS general strike today caused several inconveniences to students appearing for BA Final semester examination of Manipur University in the valley areas.

Reports said, there was widespread confusion among the students as the announcement of the general strike was made only late in the afternoon yesterday. Further, examinations were not among the exemptions announced by JCILPS.

IFP received several phone calls last night from anxious parents and students on whether the final semester examination today would be held as scheduled or not.

University sources however maintained that, examinations would be held according to schedule as they could not unilaterally cancel examinations at the last minute without the approval of the MU examination committee.

Many inconveniences were caused as students were stopped and detained at several places by JCILPS supporters and only let off after showing admit cards, reports said.

Sources said, the university authority is not averse to conducting special examination for those students who could not reach examination centers.

It however maintained that the examination which was held today would not be cancelled.
